Are you a loyal Ubuntu user, but you want to get rid of Unity because you don’t like it? Here’s how to install Cinnamon on Ubuntu 04.14 LTS.
While Unity is a graphical shell for the GNOME desktop environment developed by Canonical Ltd. for its Ubuntu operating system. Unity debuted on April 2011 for the netbook edition of Ubuntu 10.10, but eventually it has been expanded to support the classic Desktop installation.
To install Cinnamon on Ubuntu, open the terminal and run the following command:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:lestcape/cinnamon
Followed by:
sudo apt-get update
to update the list of packages. Then, for the actual installation of Cinnamon:
sudo apt-get install cinnamon
Once the installation is complete, log off from the current session and on the login screen, select the Cinnamon session and log back in.
